Kristy Hagerman began her love for playing music at the age of 6 when she enrolled in Music for Young Children classes in Ottawa Ontario. Since then, the local Greely Ontario Singer Songwriter has made a name for herself playing gigs at local restaurants, public events, music venues, weddings and performing O’ Canada during the Greely Canada Day Celebrations in 2011 to over 3,000 people.
“I took Music for Young Children at ages 6, 7, and 9. MYC was my first foray into playing music and I soaked it up. I would go home after class each week and practice for hours on end. Those piano lessons laid the groundwork of knowledge and practical understanding that I have built upon my whole life, especially now as a songwriter and performer. I'm very grateful to my parents for enrolling me at such a young age.”
Hagerman continued her music education formerly when she moved to Toronto in 2015 to attend The Harris Institute Audio Recording Program, a 12 month comprehensive program focusing on audio recording, music production and the music industry.
During her year at Harris, Hagerman landed an internship at Oak Recording Studio. A downtown Toronto recording studio whose in-house producers have worked with Serena Ryder, The Barenaked Ladies, Bruce Cockburn, Maestro Fresh Wes, Chololair and Kiesza among others.
While there, head producer Damon de Szegheo signed Kristy to Oak’s Record Label “Our Kin Audio” (www.ouraudiokin.com). Her first single & video for “Kiss Me like You Mean It” was released in September on YouTube and she is on a 24 date Toronto Pre-Order Coffee Shop Tour for her first full-length album titled “Right.”
Although Hagerman has had the opportunity to study at one of Canada’s most notable music production schools, Kristy still credits her passion for performing to her years in MYC. She recalls, “Once in a blue moon, my teacher Barb Faubert would play a more complex song for the students. I wanted to be just like her”.
