Kansas football players are in the midst of their winter strength and conditioning program as the Jayhawks begin their off-field preparations for the 2025 season. KU will begin its on-field preparations for the 2025 season in a matter of weeks when spring practice begins. There will be plenty to look forward to in Lance Leipold’s fifth season as KU head coach. From KU unveiling Phase I renovations to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, to Jalon Daniels leading the KU offense to a new-look KU defense. There is a lot to look forward to in the broader scope of college football and FanDuel is certainly looking ahead as well.

The sports book has released some early win totals and other odds for the 2025 college football season, which included an early win total for KU. FanDuel lists the KU win total at 7.5 with the over having -148 odds and the under having +116 odds, which means the sportsbook anticipates more people will bet on the over than the under.

Additionally, FanDuel listed odds for the Big 12 Championship winner. Kansas State and Arizona State led the way at +550 but KU had the fifth-shortest odds coming in at +750. Baylor and BYU are the two programs ahead of KU. In terms of the conference title odds on FanDuel, KU will play five of the bottom six teams.

Big picture, KU is undergoing its biggest roster turnover under Lance Leipold. KU lost over 30 seniors to graduation and seven scholarship players to the transfer portal. In total, KU lost a combined 27 players from the 44 available slots on the final depth chart of the 2024 season and the KU staff has set out to fill a lot of those voids in the transfer portal.

KU’s transfer class currently sits at 22 players with 21 of them on campus in January for the spring semester. Wide receiver Bryson Canty will graduate from Columbia and join the program in the summer. The Jayhawks have 10 players committed on offense, 10 players committed on defense and two specialists committed. KU’s 22-man transfer class ranks No. 24 in the country in the 247Sports rankings. KU’s combined class of 22 transfers and 15 high school signees ranks No. 56 in the nation and No. 10 in the Big 12.

In terms of the returning players, KU welcomes back quarterback Jalon Daniels as well as starters Bryce Foster and Kobe Baynes on offense. On defense, KU welcomes back starters like Dean Miller, Tommy Dunn and D.J. Withers.

There have also been some coaching changes this offseason. Jim Zebrowski was promoted to the role of offensive coordinator after Jeff Grimes departed the program for Wisconsin. Matt Lubick was hired to return to KU as the tight ends coach. On defense, Brian Borland retired and D.K. McDonald was tabbed as the new defensive coordinator. Brandon Shelby was promoted to serve as the defensive backs coach.

KU will open the season on a Saturday when KU takes on Fresno State in Week 0. KU’s Week 1 games against Wagner has been moved up a day to Friday August 29 and the move gives KU an extra day of prep heading into the Border Showdown with Missouri in Week 2. KU will then play five conference home games and four conference road games. KU will host Utah, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Kansas State. KU will travel on the road to face Arizona, Texas Tech, Iowa State and UCF.

I’m leaning toward the over too, especially if the defense keeps trending up and the offense stays mostly healthy. I like to track futures and props on a trusted online casino https://www.johnplantmusic.com/ instead of just sticking to traditional sportsbooks since the odds can vary and sometimes you find better value. Fans are usually quicker to overreact than the lines suggest, so it’s worth checking other spots for a different perspective.
