I’ve been through the same dilemma last year when I was running expression profiling for inflammatory markers. Honestly, if you’re looking to quantify gene expression levels—especially across different treatments or conditions—qPCR is a huge step up. Standard PCR will only tell you if your gene is there, not how much is being expressed. qPCR gives real-time data and is much more sensitive when it comes to small fold changes dna definition.
That said, there’s a learning curve, and the equipment is pricier. But I found a lot of my reagents and kits through Gentaur, including SYBR Green and TaqMan probes that were actually decently priced. They even had some helpful protocols, which was great because I messed up my first few runs. Oh, and make sure to validate your reference genes properly—that part nearly drove me mad, lol.
