MYC Music for Young Children

Sandra Poolton

Elmira, ON

BIO

Since 1986 I have had the privilege of teaching over 1,600 MYC students and their families from Elmira and surrounding areas.
Graduates of MYC are prepared for instruction at a more senior level.    Students are capable of ongoing success because of the investment made in music skills at the introductory level.

Priorities:

- instill a life-long love of music
- incorporate creative teacher aids in presenting/reinforcing music concepts
- provide an enriching and inviting learning environment at my studio in Elmira (to MYC grads: private piano & theory lessons)
- incorporate practice incentives when appropriate
- provide a well equipped and professional looking studio
- incorporate technology at weekly lessons
- avail myself of ongoing professional development opportunities as an MYC Coordinator and private piano/theory teacher

TESTIMONIALS

" I am so happy that we started our son in music 4 years ago.  It has helped his character, his ability to learn and his musical talent.  Thanks so much for your instruction, your patience and the care you take with each student."               Stephanie - former MYC Parent

"Thank you for another great year in MYC.  You are a wonderful, dedicated teacher and we feel very blessed to experience you musical guidance with all 3 of our boys.  Your patience, knowledge and commitment are very appreciated."      Anton and Julie - former MYC Parents

"We cannot express the fulfillment we received as participating parents with both of our children in your MYC classes.  The level of professionalism, attention to detail and unwaivered commitment make it easy to see why you come so highly recommended.  We are also very excited to see the continued progression in your private classes.  Our family has grown in many positive ways over the past 5 years and we attribute a great portion of that to music."          Vanessa and Jason - former MYC Parents

Regional (Southern & Central Ontario) MYC Coordinator - Since 1988

Honoured to be recognized as "Cornerstone" of Music for Young Children (2008)

As Regional Coordinator: Teacher recruitment & ongoing teacher support:

- Deliver MYC teacher training seminars annually (Levels 1, 2 and 3)
- provide twice annual MYC professional development opportunities (Spring and Fall)
- conduct teacher visits to MYC classes across Southern & Central Ontario Regions

All of the above provides for a wonderful balance between teaching my students and "growing together" with my MYC colleagues.

As MYC Coordinator, I welcome the opportunity to share more about MYC with you.

BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION with  MYC™

To succeed in music…………

Invest in a solid foundation in musicianship at the introductory level.   Take the time to lay a foundation that will last a lifetime!

There is no quick or easy way to learn to play the piano well.

Learning to play involves the acquisition of a carefully layered skill set.

MYC understands that literacy in the language of music involves more than simply playing an instrument.    Note reading, theory, fingerplay techniques, history, ear training, movement, singing, solfege, harmonizing a melody line, sight reading, music composition, rhythm ensembles are all building blocks to success.
