About

Hello fellow music lovers!   My name is Suzanne de Bussac and I am very grateful to have discovered MYC and built it into my career as a musician and teacher. I discovered the program through my son who I put into Sunshine 1 at the age of 4.  I was overwhelmed with joy during our classes and amazed at how much he was learning and how FUN the learning was! I was also deeply grateful for the connected musical time I was spending with him in our classes. It was wonderful bonding time.   I was so impressed and engaged that I decided I would train to become a teacher.  That was 8 years ago and I have enjoyed my studio and students immensely ever since! My background includes a multitude of elements within the musical world.  I studied piano from the age of 4 through the Royal Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Dr. Mary Munn, Michael Redshaw, and Ron Proctor.  I completed my Grade 10 and then transferred to York University’s Fine Arts Program in Toronto. I had a career in the music industry while in Toronto as National Marketing Manger for HMV Canada, and owner of Tranzister Productions, a small full service agency providing services in audio, video and event production.  Clients included Warner Music Canada, Universal Music, and Air Canada. All the while I have been writing songs and performing them as often as I possibly can.   I was a fixture on the Toronto singer/songwriter scene through the late 90’s and  released my first recording entitled The Valley of Baca in 2000.  I toured extensively and received wonderful support from the likes of Jurgen Gothe (CBC), Ross Porter (CBC), Alan Cross (CFNY), and Danny Greenspoon (Producer) as well as fantastic retail support from HMV Canada (back when people still bought CDs!)  The album also garnered quite a few print reviews and ended up selling about 4000 units.  Unfortunately the record company that signed me, Oasis Entertainment /The Song Corp filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and that was the end of that!  While I was devastated about losing my revenue from the project, I still loved all the experiences that were a part of the journey.  I continued to play live around Ontario and Quebec for a while until my journey changed with motherhood. In 2004 my son Etienne was born, then in 2005 my daughter Chloe, and in 2006 with my other daughter Jasmine! Needless to say, it’s been a busy time since! We moved from Toronto to Calgary in late 2005 and I began teaching MYC in 2009.  Between parenting my children and teaching music to children, I discovered the joy of working with children and my love of teaching.  Teaching brings me as much joy as performing does, in that music seems to have a magical way of breaking down barriers among people, and somehow allows people to share a connection.  Through teaching I have discovered my personal mandate of spreading love in the world through music.  This motto applies to both my teaching and my personal musical pursuits.  I feel very lucky to have the ability to do this and share it with people. The re-emergence of my live performance life was with a show called Brake…Clutch…Accelerate! , a fundraising and awareness building concert in advocacy for the Alberta Children’s Hospital foundation.  The concert was performed on July 2 2015 at the National Music Centre and I've done countless shows since. My 2nd album Shiver Stories was released in 2018,  and my new project "Liquids" is forthcoming. I advocate for music as a healing tool and coping mechanism in our crazy fast paced world.  Sharing music in whatever form, be it as a student, teacher, performer, recording artist. Music just really makes the world a better place and I still love it after all this years!

Studio Description

I teach from my home studio located in Westmount (Hillhurst). Families enter through the front door and come to lower level to studio. There is a washroom on the main level next to doorway to the downstairs area. We will be carefully mandating Covid protocol for class sizes and all regulations, and I will be sanitizing before / after every class. Families are asked to please not arrive too early as I need to allow for time to do this. Please ring the doorbell / do not just enter.  There is a dog in the house and he needs to be put in kennel before students arrive.  Other than that...I'm eager to share music with you.
