Hello, welcome to my website! I am Maureen Schoonbaert and I am very proud to teach MYC in Bolton, Ontario. Maureen's Music Studio offers Music for Young Children (MYC) Classes as well as  Private Lessons in Piano, Flute, Theory, Ultimate Music Theory Club & Music Tutoring. Royal Conservatory of Music [RCM] Certified Elementary Specialist My Goal as a Music Instructor is: *to incorporate Music Theory and Technique into exciting lessons that children will look forward to. *to teach each student to accurately and thoroughly read music and to provide a basic understanding of all the most common musical terms. *to encourage, in each student, the exploration of their own unique gift for musical expression. *to inspire in each student a love for music through lessons taught with patience and understanding. *to help each student to acquire the confidence to perform for others. *to promote the continual habit of daily QUALITY practice. *to provide positive reinforcement as each student learns new pieces to perform. *to inspire and be inspired by each student ~this alone fuels my true heart-felt passion for music. Watching students build confidence and self-esteem as they learn the 'language of music' is very rewarding. Being a part of this process, through the Music for Young Children Program, is a wonderful part of my work and I look forward to teaching music for the rest of my life. A little bit about Ms. Maureen.... I am originally from a small town in south-western Manitoba.   My genetic background contains a lot of 'musical talent', however I am the only musician in my immediate family.  My 20+ years of musical training have included instructors such as late Geraldine Kroeker (college of RCM Examiners), Rob Richardson (Professor Brandon University), Craig Wingrove (National Ballet of Canada Pianist).  During my high-school years, I was an avid participant in the Glee Club, Music Recitals, Church Choir, School Musicals, Concert Band and the local music festivals.  In 1986 a 'dream came true' when I was awarded the coveted "Rose Bowl" along with post-secondary scholarships and bursaries.  A second major goal was achieved when I attended the Brandon University School of Music; where I majored in piano and minored in flute and vocal studies.  Collectively, I have taught private music lessons for over 24 years; 4 years in Manitoba and 20 years in Bolton.  Teaching has been a large part of my adult life as I have also had a career as a bookkeeper & administrative consultant; which is what brought me to Ontario.  In that role I have coached and mentored people in cities across Canada and the U.S.  Over the past few years I have slowly downsized my bookkeeping & consulting business as I have realized my true calling is to share the gift of music with the students I teach.  As this career portion of my life ends ~ I am thrilled to embark upon my  journey with the Music for Young Children Program.  In volunteer roles, I represent the Bolton Centre for the Royal Conservatory of Music, and s Treasurer on the Boards for the Caledon Concert Band Associationfor  and Orangeville District Muic Festival.   I have a daughter Jade, age 26.
