About

Hi! I'm Shoshanna Godber If you are looking for music lessons in Prince George you have come to the right place! I am excited to begin my 20th year teaching Music For Young Children. I became a Music For Young Children teacher after searching for a program which would best serve the needs of my youngest piano students. I'm confident that MYC is the best way to start children in piano lessons - I wish it had been around when I was a child! As well as singing and playing the piano, my musical exploration has included violin, flute, celtic harp, guitar and banjo, so I know from experience that MYC provides a wonderful foundation to succeed on any instrument. Over the last nineteen years, I have really enjoyed watching MYC students (including my own two sons) develop into musicians. I would love to be given the chance to help your child along their musical journey as well. You can find out more about me on my personal website: www.shoshannagodber.com You can hear me on my children's music albums on all streaming platforms as well as my website and: https://shoshannagodber.bandcamp.com You can see me on my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/ShoshannaGodber/videos

Qualifications: Bachelor of Music from U.B.C Royal Conservatory trained in piano, voice and theory 26 years of experience teaching private piano, voice and harp lessons Regular performer (piano, voice, banjo and celtic harp) Church pianist Early Childhood Development training as part of my work as a Parent and Child Group coordinator Extensive experience leading families in songs, rhymes and stories as part of my work as a children's librarian and Mother Goose facilitator

Testimonials:

"Music for Young Children is an amazing, well-rounded program for both children and their parents, and Shoshanna Godber is an equally amazing teacher!  Both of our daughters found the Music for Young Children program and voice lessons to be engaging and fun, and as parents, we were very happy to see the thorough understanding of music concepts that our daughters gained through their lessons.  Shoshanna is a very knowledgeable, patient, organized, creative, and encouraging music teacher; we were very fortunate to have been taught by her while she was teaching in our community."

"Shoshanna Godber has remarkable talent as a musician and music teacher.  Her enthusiasm for sharing the joy of learning music is contagious.  She encouraged children to perform with passion and confidence. Even parents loved taking lessons in her relaxed comfortable setting.  Shoshanna's never-ending patience with students of all ages is remarkable.  Her incredible passion for music and ability to play different instruments is very inspiring."

I have been blessed with the wonderful opportunity to have Shoshanna Godber teach Music for Young Children to my three boys. My boys are of ages 5yrs, 7yrs and 9yrs.  It has been an amazing experience to watch my children learn to play the piano and read music.  They have learnt so many things and it has been through such a fun and subtle manner that my boys don't even realize they have learnt anything.  They believe they have always known all these things. Another great bonus for this class was that I had to be in the class with my sons so that I learnt what they learnt.  That way I was able to help them practice their homework lessons.  I had never learnt piano prior to this class.  I barely knew how to read music.  I now know how to play the piano and read music too! Shoshanna is very knowledgeable.  She explains concepts really well.  She is sooooooo patient and understanding. I can't stress that enough; she is sooooo patient and understanding.  She is fun to be in class with. Any one who has the opportunity to have Shoshanna Godber as their music teacher is very fortunate.  She is a very special music teacher.  She is one of a kind.  We will miss you, Shoshanna."

"Shoshanna's passion for music and children shone through in her teaching for my daughter. Every class was a delight to attend, and the fun and playful style of teaching made it very easy for the children to learn about music in theory and practice. Shoshanna planted some fundamental seeds within Lily which continue to grow and develop into love of music."

"Shoshana is the best piano teacher our community has ever encountered. We were all very sad to lose her when she had to move away. Shoshana is extremely gifted in her musical abilities and happens to be equally gifted as a teacher. She has a long list of credentials on paper but the skills you meet in person show how much more gifted she really is. Shoshana sings beautifully, plays several instruments incredibly and she is very giving of her time. I would encourage everyone to try Shoshana's classes even for a week and they too will see just a sample of the blessing our community has lost. She is soft spoken and gentle, encouraging and funny, and very intelligent. Shoshana has a very natural knack for teaching both children and adults to sing and/or play an instrument. Shoshana has such a special way with kids and the patience of a saint. She is able to help recognize different learning issues in children and is able to work with/around them. For instance, my daughter has a special type of dyslexia when it comes to her right and left which occurs in piano playing and dance steps in her dance classes. She does the mirror opposite (perfectly) of what she is required. Shoshana found ways to work with this and never made my daughter self-conscious of the fact that she was doing things wrong a lot of the time. Eventually my daughter would train to do it the right way but only because of the encouraging way she was taught. Shoshana also uses some pretty smart fun tools to teach with. I have seen her actually make a game out of learning a difficult concept and it really works! She uses many encouraging tricks of the trade. I have seen Shoshana and her husband with their own 2 boys and admire the way they teach them the things that they do. My daughter was an extremely shy little girl and did not like being around anyone she did not know well so it was difficult to put her in lessons of any kind. She would not speak to the instructors and made teaching her things quite challenging. I found her to bloom during Shoshana's piano lessons. She started to open right up and have full sharing conversations with Shoshana and soon felt comfortable enough to open up to her other instructors. My daughter has been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to be taught by such a gifted teacher. We have yet to find another instructor like her."

Rates and Prices

The cost for materials for a level 1 class (Sunshine 1 and Sunbeams 1) is $222 (which includes taxes). This amount includes everything your child will need for the year: 3 lesson books, a homework book, a magnetic staff and magnets, a castanet and a bag to carry it all in. There are 36 lessons per year (Sept-June), 2 studio recitals, approx 4 Conservatory recitals and 2 music parties (which students can choose to take part in at no extra cost). Additionally, the Conservatory often offers workshops and masterclasses that students can attend at either a reduced fee or for free. The Conservatory charges: The program cost is $1016.50 for the full year plus $35 annual registration fee (or $50 registration fee for more than one child). Payment can be made by credit card, cash or cheque and you can choose to pay for the whole year, 1 semester at a time or by month however, please note that since an empty space mid-year cannot be filled you are making a ten month commitment when you register. The price for one block of Sunrise is $158 plus a $10 annual registration fee. Each block has its own book, downloadable CD, finger puppet and rhythm instrument which costs $48. It is possible to register for each block separately although I encourage people to register for all three blocks to ensure you keep your space and have all the books ready to go when each class starts. Plus there’s a bit of cost savings as the materials are only $135 if you buy them all at once.
