I am a certified MYC teacher and have been teaching for 19 years. I also sat under the teaching of Judi Bidne from fall of 2002 - 2012 with my kids.  I believe that having been on the other side as a parent, gives me a broader perspective as a teacher. I've taught privately for well over a decade and though I enjoy it, I'm partial to the MYC program both for what I'm able to impart as a teacher and for the additional benefits to the students.

I love music.  It speaks in ways that no other way can.  It’s universal and yet so diverse.  It demands time and discipline to develop, but the rewards are so rich both to the musician and to the listener.   Music is a gift to be shared with others; something I try to instill in my students.

As far as using ‘my gift’,  I started accompanying for church services when I was 14.  That’s branched out to small groups, soloists, choirs (everything from playing, to singing, and even directing a few), weddings, funerals, and musical dramas.  Additionally, I’ve worked with children for many years in numerous other environments such as kids clubs and summer camps. I was introduced to MYC through my Mom, (Judi Bidne) who taught MYC for 19 years.  I have a deep appreciation for how the program masterfully creates a strong music foundation, balanced with fun, engaging activities!  I really appreciate the benefits of every child having their own personal aid – You – as parents!

  Our family's experience with MYC under the guidance of Heather Brown, has exceeded any expectation we ever had regarding the impact of music in our children's lives. Our children have differing natural musical abilities, but both have grown amazingly through this unique program. Of their own initiative our children are now both regularly drawn to express themselves musically on different instruments - creating their own music in their own unique ways - and for them this is a significant stress release and form of personal expression. Through MYC's collaborative, and hugely engaging method of progressively buildiing complex musical concepts (you won't believe what your kids will take in!), kids are given an incredible advantage in coping with this crazy world: not only does it seriously boost brain development of centres critical to success in life (check out the scientific studies on this!) it gives them a voice to constructively work through their emotions. Only a few years of MYC advanced our kids as far in complex musical understanding as 8 plus years of traditional Royal Conservatory taken by my husband and I when we were children in the 80s. My music is just outside the town of Westlock, AB, aptly named CREEKSIDE CADENCES Music Studio due to the little creek that runs by. The studio  houses 5 keyboards to accommodate classes of 3-6 students along with a parent or caregiver.
