  Hello, I'm Catharine Kemp-Roth. I love teaching piano lessons. I own Perth Arts and Music Conservatory , and am located in Newton.  I  would like to share the Music for Young Children Program with you.  Many  parents are hearing more about the importance of giving their children music lessons. MYC's objective in "Creating the Happy Habit of Learning Music" meets parents desire for their children to have a joyful first experience with music. An abundance of visual aids, songs, games, and funny stories make this a delightful experience for every child.  At the same time, it lays an excellent foundation for further studies, whether in private piano lessons, choir or other instruments. This high quality program appeals to all learning styles, and will please even the youngest students.  This group music class achieves the same objectives as private piano lessons, but also allows for activities  such as composing, singing folk songs, improvisation and games. Biography I studied both performance and teaching in my Bachelor of Music program and I have the Piano Pedagogy program from the Victoria Conservatory of Music. I have taught for 30 years, including 10 at the Victoria Conservatory where I was an specialist in both Early Childhood Music , and also group piano. I maintained a large studio of private students. My students have won numerous awards at the local, provincial, national levels,  with organizations such as the Kiwanis Music Festival , the Victoria Conservatory of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Music. These have included Silver medals, with marks as high as 97% with the Royal Conservatory and national scholarships.  Graduated private students graduated from Capilano College in music therapy, Education at UVic, and U of T, solo piano  performance at Moscow Conservatory, accompanying from Milan as well as composition (UK).  I also have my raised two children who have gone on to persue other artistic endeavors. I have  performed solo and as an accompanist  at the Victoria Conservatory and surrounding area. This is complimented by her invariably pleasant demeanor and   I am constantly surprised by her inventive approach. I was actually looking for a daycare for my two and a half year old son, when I came across Catharine Kemp-Roth and her MYC kiosk in the mall.  I decided to go for it, as my son enjoys music.  Little did I realize at the time what a positive impact it would have.       His social skills have improved and his desire for music has only increased.  What a delight to be part of MYC with Catharine! T.H.  Moonbeams 2 parent The Music for Young Children program has to be counted as the dominant force in the musical training of young children in Canada today.  Many of the new students arriving each year in my studio are graduates of Music for Young Children.  They arrive superbly prepared and well motivated for further study.  MYC teachers have found the right balance.   They successfully blend the pleasure and joy of music making with the rigor of a well-crafted pedagogical progression.
