Meet the Teacher

Hi! I'm Sharon Bacon

I love to make music, and enjoy passing on my love of music to people of all ages.  Music for Young Children (TM) lays a solid piano-based musical foundation, and is an excellent choice for your child's first piano or music lessons.  I am enjoying teaching this program in my studio, "Dovetail Music Studios", in the Port Sydney and Bracebridge areas of Muskoka.

As well as enjoying music, I have studied it extensively.  In addition to advanced studies through the Royal Conservatory of Music (Gr. 10 singing, Gr. 8 piano), I also received my B. Mus. degree from McMaster University, majoring in history and theory.  In addition, I hold B. Ed and M. Ed degrees from the University of Toronto.  This past spring I completed my final training for MYC.

For over 25 years I have made music with my folk harp, providing special music for church retreats and conferences, often with songs I have written.  In 2004 I was a guest artist at the Salvation Army’s Christmas concert at Massey Hall in Toronto.  I am also part of a harp/flute duo and we frequently play at weddings and receptions, or give mini concerts, around Muskoka.

Since moving to beautiful Muskoka in 1989 my husband and I have been raising our five children, ages 8 to 20.  Music is a priority in our home, and all of our kids are learning to play an instrument.  On a good day we can sometimes even be found making music together!  Family members are often part of the worship team at our church, and we also enjoy participating in community theatre and outdoor activities such as camping and canoeing.  Our two youngest children are in my MYC classes.
