Hi! I'm Michelle Fedorowich

Dedicated to the joy of music education! Welcome to my website! To visit me here again, please remember my URL: https://www.myc.com/members/mfedorowich/ and enter it in the address field of your browser next time.

I myself am a graduate of the Music For Young Children program. There has always been music in the home (as my mother has been teaching MYC for many years), so it seems quite natural for me to be following in her footsteps and carrying the torch so to speak.

I went on to take piano lessons privately, and obtained my RCM grade 10 piano in 2002. I graduated with honours from the Etobicoke School of the Arts, majoring in music in 2003. I then moved to Winnipeg to work at The Welcome Home, a mission project in the North End, devoted to some of the poor and disadvantaged for three years (2003-2006). It was there that I implemented and directed an arts program for children, called 'Kids Are Creative'. I previously worked as a keyboard sales associate at Long & McQuade's Musical Instruments in Toronto. In addition to all of that, I have been teaching music lessons for many years. I have taught students of all ages and abilities (including adults), and from many different walks of life. I have taught many students to learn to play piano through Sketch Working Arts in downtown Toronto, an art studio space for homeless and street-involved youth. I previously worked in Pattaya, Thailand with the Father Ray Foundation, working with many marginalized populations of Thailand, including teaching music to blind children.

More recently, I completed my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at Ryerson University, receiving a Global Undergraduate Award for my research wheelchair accessibility on the Toronto Transit Commission. In August 2018, as part of my BSW, I was emergency evacuated from the worst monsoon flooding in 100 years in southern India, while collaborating with members of rural communities to examine water use and conceptualize sustainable water practices (work presented at the 4th World Disaster Management Conference in Mumbai, 2019).

Music education has always been an important part of my life, and something that I have felt absolutely imperative to share with others in all kinds of ways.

I look forward to teaching children music at the most crucial stage of learning any kind of language (music being the universal), providing them with the tools that were most vital of instilling such a passion of music in me from a very young age (I was enrolled in the Music For Young Children program at 3 years old).

Musically Yours,

Michelle Fedorowich

Testimonial from Yuhong He - parent of one of my MYC graduates (since year one!), professor at U of T Mississauga; Chair, Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment:

"Michelle, I truly appreciate everything you have done for us - both me and Eric. We truly enjoyed every lesson we have taken with you! Learning music could be both 'boring' and full of challenges. But you have made it so easy and enjoyable (ok at least to me music could be boring and full of challenges). Being a student for more than 20 years and teaching many courses for a few years as a professor now, I do know you are a one-of-a-kind teacher who knows her subject matter, knows how to teach the same information in many different ways to assure understanding, knows where kids need more instructions, and last but not least, knows how to make learning FUN.

After coming back from your class yesterday, I reviewed all the videos and photos we took for Eric during your music concerts and realized how much he has grown up - both musically and physically. I knew music will be part of Eric's life, thanks to you. I am not a musical person, but I am also proud of myself, because I am no longer music blind - I was so envious of my officemate because she can play 'Mary had a little lamb' on a piano when we were working on our PhD projects back 10 years ago. I can play those songs too now! 🙂 "

Testimonial from a MYC parent, Jas Kainth, after returning to the program a few years later:

"Your classes are so beyond organized and presented very well! You put more than 100 percent in your classes and your students. You are always there to answer our questions promptly (you don't mind me bothering you! Lol) and with clarity which speaks volume to the type of business you run."

Testimonial from a MYC parent, Brent MacKinnon, regarding COVID-19 shifts into online music classes:

"Just a note of thanks for your resilience in keeping the music classes going throughout the Covid pandemic. I am sure it wasn't easy. You have always maintained a bright and positive demeanor for everyone. Adalyn and I are grateful to be part of it. It has become an important part of our lives."
