I have enjoyed teaching piano to young children in the Lower Sackville, Fall River and Waverley area for 32 years. This will be my 33rd year and I am still enjoying helping children discover a love of music that can last a lifetime.  Hi! I'm Beverly Doucette and this is my Music For Young Children webpage. Teaching Music For Young Children has allowed me to combine two areas of interest  - children and music. I believe that music can be learned and enjoyed by everyone. I especially like helping parents and children discover music together in a fun and relaxed manner.

I was a parent in the program with my own 4 children before I became a teacher. As a parent I have seen firsthand the many benefits of music education. I feel that I gave my children a gift that will last a lifetime. The gift was not just an enjoyment of music but of self-confidence and an enriched learning experience. I feel that the group experience of MYC let them develop their confidence in small doses each time they played in class and at a recital. I am excited to now be sharing this love of music to my Grandchildren.

As a teacher, I like the the way that music is presented in Music For Young Children with repetition and hands on  learning and having fun with their parent. I enjoy  teaching class every week. I use  games, songs, fingerplays, puppets and movement to enrich the learning experience. My favourite part of class is watching a child and parent laugh or smile together as they learn.

In addition to teaching piano, I have played the piano, organ and keyboard in churches for 30+ years and at weddings . I have also taught Early Childhood Education in both daycares and preschools for over 35 years. I enjoy being able to use my experience in early Childhood Education to enhance the learning of young children and their parents in music.

Studio Address and Contact

Stone Mount Dr., Lower Sackville

(902) 483- 4422

My studio is located in Sackville but yet  close to Fall River and Waverley and Bedford.  We have lots of fun learning music together. The classes are 1 hour in length and a parent or grandparent attends class with each child. This enables effective practise at home during the week. Our music year consists of weekly lessons, a Christmas kitchen party and a Spring Recital. We play solo and together on 4 keyboards and 1 acoustic piano. During our Rhythm Ensemble time we use a variety of rhythm instruments and we enjoy playing the many games that I have to reinforce theory concepts. We use ribbons and scarves in movement, and puppets enrich the learning for the young children as well.  We enjoy composing and each child writes his or her own song which is then sent to the Music For Young Children Composition Festival. We celebrate each child being a star composer with certificates and pictures and their songs are displayed in class for everyone to see.
I also teach the Sunrise program. It is a 40 minute class with children (ages 2 1/2 - 4 years) and parents. In Sunrise we have a lot of fun singing and moving and playing rhythm instruments. We also do a few crafts and learn music in a fun way. Lots of puppets and laughter on all of our parts - children, parents and teacher.
