Every year Music for Young Children students have the opportunity to participate in the annual MYC Composiiton Festival. Children strengthen their aural, reading and harmony skills through music composition. Composing is a long term project, well worth the effort.
This is the 18th year of the Festival that had 12,784 students from across Canada, the U.S., New Zealand and South Korea taking part in 2005. Compositions are judged in their level in seven different regions -- Western Canada (BC, AB, SK, MB), Ontario, Eastern Canada (PQ, NS, NB, PEI, NF), United States, South Korea and New Zealand.
The first place winners of each of these regions then go on to be judged internationally. The international winners each received a special 25th anniversary T-Shirt this year. The first place international winners were also presented with a cheque for $110.
