MYC Coordinators

Music for Young Children Coordinators are experienced MYC teachers who assist the MYC teachers in their area. Coordinators recruit new teachers, conduct training seminars, observe classes, make constructive suggestion, do teacher evaluations, arrange regular teacher meetings, coordinate area advertising campaigns and represent teacher concerns and opinions to MYC.

The Coordinators are there to help and support teachers. They provide guidance, direction, suggestions – whatever the teacher needs to be successful.

Coordinators are also responsible for maintaining the quality of the delivery of the MYC program and will visit teachers yearly to help in any way that is necessary.

MYC Support

MYC provides phone support through the coordinator and a monthly newsletter from MYC-Kanata to share teacher ideas, program successes and news.

New teachers are visited by a coordinator at least once a year at which time the teacher's class or classes are observed and constructive suggestions and support are offered.

Another form of support is the networking that occurs between teachers in the same area who get together regularly at meetings, often held with the coordinator.

Webboard

MYC teachers have the use of a MYC Webboard to post questions and comments to each other. There is a wealth of information - everything from how to handle tricky situations in class, to wonderful uses for new games, recital ideas, songs, and new sites that are worthy to go to for research.

Teacher Input is Valued

Your input as a teacher is valued and encouraged. Music/education contributions are reviewed by Frances Balodis, originator and International Director, and may be included in appropriate level texts when they are revised. The MYC curriculum has benefited from revisions using input from teachers since 1980! Teachers are compensated for contributions and receive credit in the text.

Conference

The MYC international conference is hosted by a group of teachers in a specific geographical area; the conference location rotates bi-annually from the east to the mid-lands, and then to the west.

Conference speakers are well-known professionals in the areas of music education and early childhood development. Workshops in curriculum areas are conducted to renew, energize, and replenish resources of conference participants.

The conference also offers an invaluable opportunity to network, problem-solve and share successes or explore new directions with other teachers.
