My music studio features:
My Brantford studio is large and easily facilitates the moving around we do in the singing portions of our class. Children sit on brightly coloured circle rugs during the listening parts of class.
Writing rhythm stories....hmm...how many beats per measure?
Walls are decorated with pictures of the MYC critters, as well as occasional holiday themes. A large corkboard holds assignment sheets.
We use accompanying CDs, great rhythm instruments, puppets and teaching aids (flannel boards, whiteboard easel, games and books). MIDI disks with exciting accompaniments are used to accompany piano ensembles. Terrific videos of composers' lives are made available to students. Award-winning computer music games are played by private students over age 7 before or after their half-hour lesson at no extra cost.
A washroom is conveniently available.
And finally, but importantly, each child has access to a piano or 6l-key, touch-sensitive keyboard. First year students may occasionally share a keyboard for some exercises.
