Meet the Teacher

Hi! I'm Sheryl Dubois.  I am the owner and operator of Sheryl Dubois' Piano Studio.

Music for Young Children is a wonderful program to introduce children to the world of music.

  • Fun - group activities and games in the class help create a positive learning environment.
  • Motivating - the dynamics of the group activities are very motivating to the children
  • Comprehensive - the children learn to play the piano, but so much more is involved. Through the use of singing, movement, rhythm instruments, ensemble playing, and composition, the ear is developed, sight reading is improved, and theoretical concepts are reinforced.

What the parents say:   "This last week, Noah complained that I hadn't let him practice ALL of the things on the homework list.  He wants to play and sing every song, every day.~ T. Biehler " "I enjoy the "roundness" to the class. The fact that they are taught all aspects of music, not just playing."  "That everything from reading music, to theory, to rhythm is taught."  "Very well structured."  "Variety of activities throughout the class."  "Change in activities, reward system, Mrs. Dubois' abundance of patience."

What the kids say:  How many more sleeps until piano lessons? ~ N. Biehler" "I like percussion instrument time and solo time."  " I like the games."  "I like that I have a wonderful teacher."

By the end of their Music for Young Children experience, children are ready to play their Grade 1 Conservatory exam.

In addition to the keyboard programs, I teach Sunrise and Music Pups.  Both of these are non-keyboard based for very young children, ages birth  to 4 years, and include singing, movement, and rhythm instruments.

I began teaching Music for Young Children in1995, after teaching private piano lessons for several years. I prefer to teach beginner level students in MYC classes, and continue to teach privately beyond the MYC levels. I now have over 20 years of teaching experience.

In addition to teaching, I also enjoy making music. I have been a church musician since I was in high school. I have enjoyed accompanying and singing in school, community and church choirs.  Currently I am a member of Edson's community choir, Vocal Variations.
