LESSON PLANS FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 30- FEBRUARY 4, 2012
Sunbeams III:
1. Warm up with D major scale and begin learning the triads from W-42-43.
2. Begin the finger patterns of W-20
3. We have started learning 6/8 time so you might want to have fun with your envelope of rhythms and make up patterns to clap
4. Festival piece- choose which piece you will perform at Festival April 21-28 this week. We will learn it, then take a break from it and then bring it back to life again after March break.
5. Since it is Mozart's 256th birthday on March 27th we watched a Youtube video about 6 year old Emily Bear who is begin compared to Mozart. Here is the link to that video:
6. Continue to work through the Tonic Tutor computer assignments.
7. Begin composing short "riffs" in the time signature you want. Write them down and put them in your composing file.

SUNSHINE I:
1.Warm up with the Creepy C scale using the C-G bridge and the B-G bridge.
2. Review Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Add in the bridges for extra challenge.
3. K-56,57,58 from the C book with C, D, E on staff
4. K-60 and 61 use dynamics while you play
5. Tonic Tutor computer assignment and composing

SUNBEAMS II:
1. Warm up with the G major scale and begin working on the chords- W-44, 45
2. W-24 Practice the articulations of each line, one per practice day. Line 1= connect all the sounds without having a lift or break in the fingers. Line 2- three note slurs are played smoothly with a small lift in between each set. Line 3= two note slur is followed by a staccato (popcorn note). "Slur-up-up" vocalizing while playing will reinforce connecting the first two notes by floating off the second and popping off the third note. Line 4= all staccato notes.
3. K-24,25 John Kanaka (folk song). This piece has a challenging dotted quarter note rhythm that should be clapped and sung before playing. Begin by learning one line at a time.
4. Review K-23 and complete the Blue Bird and Sunbeams Waltz pieces.
5. Festival---if you are participating start thinking about which piece you might want to play.
6. Theory.....putting proper stems on notes. If a note is above the middle the stem is placed on the left hand side of the note head to make it look like the letter "p". If the note is below the middle the stem is placed on the right hand side of the note head to make it look like the letter "d".
