MYC offers 4 classes for beginner students, depending on their age. Please scroll down to find your child's age group.
Sunrise | 2 - 4 Year Olds | 10 Weeks | 40 Minutes | Weekly
Sunrise is an
exciting and innovative music program
that contains a variety of age appropriate music and movement activities
to allow children to experience the joy of music and develop musically
through fun and play. Back to back, up and down activities keep the
children engaged as they receive training in rhythm, singing, patterns,
and ear training. Songs, stories, activities, listening games, and
related crafts are included. Sunrise is a pre-keyboard program.
The
goal is to provide an introduction to the exciting world of music to the very young children.
The
focus is rhythm and singing.
Three progressive blocks encompass the Sunrise program, each in 10 week segments.
Sunshine One | 3 - 4 Year Olds | 36 Weeks | 60 Minutes | Weekly Class
Inviting and imaginative, Sunshine students are introduced to music
concepts through characters, stories, songs, and games while
simultaneously learning the fundamentals of music, building fine motor
skills, and discovering the wonder of music. Designed specifically for 3
and 4 year olds, this program gently
progresses week by week while offering outstanding musical instruction.
Children learn keyboard and staff geography, dynamics, the four basic
rhythms, identification of patterns, simple keyboard pieces, and
solfege. Students play and sing together in ensembles, learn how to
write out aural rhythm dictation, strengthen finger mobility, and
compose their own songs!

Sunbeams One | 5 - 6 Year Olds | 36 Weeks | 60 Minutes | Weekly Class
The slices of learning are very small and gradual.
One new micro-point is introduced at a time and then reinforced many times and in many sections. Sunbeams is often called the
favorite level for both teachers and students with a strategic blend of sound instruction and memorable concepts.
Students learn keyboard and staff geography through “critters” and the C
and G major scales and a minor (harmonized with bridges - simple
chords). Ear training is taught in each class, enabling each child to
develop more ways to speak the language of music. Lovely classic and
traditional songs are learned throughout the year, opening the child to
the history of music. They also find delight in creating their own
compositions!
Moonbeams One | 7 - 8 Year Olds | 36 Weeks | 60 Minutes | Weekly Class
Engaging and extensive, Moonbeams 1 is designed for students who are ready to learn and discover!
This program is fast-paced and yet very systematic and creative.
Students learn all the notes within the two staves, the Major Scales of
C, G, D, and F and Minor Scales of a and e (all of which are harmonized
with chords). Composer history, imaginative and classic songs, patterns,
transposing, the circle of 5ths, engaging theory pages, rhythm
dictation, ensemble, and composing and all taught in great detail.
Astounding accomplishments are brought to fruition in this first year of study!
