Studio Policy
(Sept 2007-08)
Studio Policy: Once a child has been registered in a class, he/she is expected to carry on through the whole year except in cases of relocation, illness, or compassionate reasons. A place in the class has been reserved for him/her, and in some cases, others have been turned away for that space. As in other activities such as hockey, dance, gymnastics, etc., there is no refund given except as stated above.
Parking: Parents of children that are taking music lessons are to park in the driveway. This makes it a lot safer for you and your child getting in and out of your vehicle.
Make up Classes: If for any reason I have to cancel a class, a makeup class will be offered at a time suitable to the majority of parents. If that proves impossible then the curriculum will be adjusted to insure that all course content is covered.
If your child has missed a class, it is your responsibility as parent to contact me to get the week's lesson.
Siblings: It is a Music for Young Children® policy that siblings should not be brought to class. Having siblings sitting in, who are not part of the class, usually proves to be distracting to other students and to parents who have made other arrangements for their other children. If, however, you have an emergency situation please notify me prior to class to see if you can be accommodated that day.
Practice: Students are expected to practice their music at home. Setting aside a definite time each day for practice usually works best. Taking one day a week off for a busy day. Your child will easily become discouraged if they are not prepared for the next lesson.
I would like to see each student start their practice with at least one scale and chords, then their pieces follow. Practicing this way develops good habits and a solid foundation for their musical career.
Recitals: We have a recital at the end of the year plus little gatherings throughout. We also have the privilege every year to entertain the elderly at one of their facilities. This is an unforgettable experience for all. Performances are in a fun and exciting environment and all students are encouraged to participate.
As a result, I find that students benefit from added self-confidence needed in performing in front of an audience. All are Welcome.
If you have any questions concerning any of the above, please contact me either by phone or email. Thank you!
