depending on the age of the child, with each year typically consisting
of 36 lessons. See the individual class descriptions below:
Sunrise (ages 2-3) 45 Minutes
Sunrise is an exciting and innovative pre-school music program for children two and three years old. This is a non-keyboard based class in which children use a variety of rhythm instruments, movement, stories, singing and games to learn about various musical concepts (eg rhythm, musical terms, patterns). The program has a flexible format that allows adaptation to a variety of ages and environmental situations including daycare and nursery school centers as well as home studios of certified Music for Young Children Sunrise teachers. Children ages 2 - 5 are welcome to participate in this class.
Please inquire about the Music Time for Sunrise program for your preschool, daycare or home school group. On-site music classes offered upon request. Reasonable group rates.
Sunshine (ages 3-4) 1 Hour
Sunshine is a keyboard based class developed for pre-school aged children. The class involves a variety of activities designed to suit the fine motor skills and capture the attention of children ages three and four. This level is rich in singing, hands on activities, games and stories about 'critters' used to help the children learn their notes as they are introduced to keyboard geography.
During the year, keyboard geography is covered from A-G and notes on the Treble clef from C - E are introduced as well as Bass clef C and B. Students also identify patterns, incorporate solfege (hand signs), reinforce songs through singing and rhythm dictations and ensembles.
Sunbeam (ages 5-6) 1 Hour
Sunbeam is keyboard-based class that is a well-rounded program for beginners ages five and six. This class is interactive, enthusiastic and exciting incorporating games, singing, solfege (hand signs), rhythm ensembles, compositions, patterns and keyboard geography.
Keyboard geography is taught through 'critters' and by the end of the course the scales of C and G Major as well as a minor are covered (harmonized with bridges). Children are able to read the majority of notes on both the treble and bass clefs.
Moonbeam (ages 7-10) 1 Hour
The Moonbeam class is a keyboard-based program that lasts three years, developed for the older beginner. Our Moonbeams want 'quick results' and curriculum is designed to support their growing sense of independence. These students learn quickly through means such as patterns, the circle of 5ths, singing, solfege, rhythm dictations, ensembles and composing.
The Major scales of C, G, D and F as well as a and e minor are covered throughout the year. The patterns learned through harmonizing scales with chords allows students to begin transposing materials and composing with great ease.
