KEYBOARD:
Keyboard:
Music Pups and Sunrise students (preschoolers) do not need a keyboard. All other levels of MYC are keyboard-based and you will need to rent or purchase an appropriate instrument before beginning lessons. A piano is ideal, but students may begin with a 61-key, touch-sensitive keyboard.
Punctuality:
Please be prepared to be at class 5 minutes early each week to copy down the week's home assignments. Aim to arrive punctually so that you can get the most from the lesson and so that you do not disturb the class. Time is valuable: missed material will not be covered again for latecomers. Please have your child "well-fed, well-watered, & well-drained" before arriving, particularly if your lesson is around a meal time
Parent Participation:
MYC parents have the special privilege of learning with their child in class and at home. You do not need a music background to begin class with your child. All children must come to class with a parent or guardian. Parents are expected to take notes during class so they can help their children at home. No talking or visiting in class, please! Too many voices at once is confusing and disturbing to the children and the teacher.
Absences:
If you or your child is sick, please do not attend class. The other families and the teacher will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
It is assumed you will attend all classes if you are well. If you are unable to attend a class for an important reason, please phone me within 24 hours. Missed classes will not be refunded, but I will e-mail or phone back homework assignments so you can continue to practise at home. If you leave an audio tape with me, I can even record the lesson for you .
Don't miss a lesson because of a "bad practice week." We all have them. You will still learn something new in class, and you can improve your practising the following week. Regular attendance will enhance your child's success.
Siblings:
It is MYC policy that only registered students and their participating partners attend class -- siblings are not permitted to attend. Older siblings who are able to sit independently for an hour are welcome to use the table in my front room to read or to do homework/theory.
If, in an emergency situation, a younger sibling must attend please call & advise me as soon as you are able.
Class Attendance:
Upon registration, I reserve a place for you and your child for the FULL YEAR (36 weeks). I therefore expect attendance for the full 36 weeks. In the event that you decide to withdraw your child from the program, a refund will be given only after 8 weeks, with one month's fees applied as penalty. After the first 8 weeks, the lesson fees are non-refundable.
Recitals:
There will be a spring/year-end recital at which all students are strongly encouraged to perform. The important skill of performance can only be developed by actually performing. Since the culmination of MYC is preparing for the Grade 1 piano exam, experience in performance is one of my goals in MYC
