Music lessons and classes at my studio reach the areas of north Brampton and south Caledon, and my studio is easily accessed from the north end of highway 410.
Music lessons are a very important part of a child's development, both musically and intellectually. I consider it a privilege to be part of this wonderful process. I have been continually teaching Music for Young Children since 1988, because I believe it to be the best way of introducing young children to music. The methods we use, and the attention to detail ensure that young children develop good habits, technically and musically, while enjoying the music they are making.
I took piano lessons as a child, completing grade 8 piano and grade 2 rudiments at the age of 14. Unfortunately, much of my learning was unpleasant, so I left it behind for many years. After my own children began piano lessons, I regained an interest in it, and began taking lessons once again. I am happy to say that I thoroughly enjoy it now, and have received my piano teaching diploma with Conservatory Canada (A.C.C.M.). I have completed grade 8 voice, and I am currently continuing those studies.
As well as teaching MYC, I also teach private piano lessons and theory classes to those students who have completed MYC. I also regularly attend MYC workshops and conferences, an adult music camp (Lakefield Summer Music Camp) and other seminars and workshops that enhance my musical training.
Along with my experience as a MYC teacher, I have served on a church youth music festival committee for 10 years, and as chairperson for 5 of those years. I have also created and run a private piano festival, along with another music teacher. I have sung in church and community choirs, and am currently singing with Georgetown Bach Chorale, an auditioned chamber choir. I also recently spent 4 months in a temporary position as the music director of a small church in a nearby community, playing organ & piano and directing choirs. I have also accompanied both singers and instrumentalists and sung some solos in musical theatre excerpts and with choirs.
