Read the Policies

Policy & "the m.y.c. way"

Studio Policy: Once a child has been registered in a class, he/she is expected to carry on through the whole year except in cases of relocation or extended illness. A place in the class has been reserved for him/her, and in some cases, others have been turned away for that space.  As in other activities such as hockey, dance, gymnastics, etc.,  there is no refund given except as stated above.

Parking/Arrival: Parents may park in the driveway or on the street.  Be careful getting out of the car and please be respectful of the neighbours’ space. Students are asked to ring then quietly come in (private lessons may be in progress) and attend to the weekly pre-class routine that has been established. All classes begin on time! Planning to arrive 5 minutes early is excellent timing!

Siblings:  It is a Music for Young Children® policy that siblings should not be brought to class.  Having siblings sitting in, who are not part of the class, usually proves to be distracting to other students and to parents who have made other arrangements for their other children.  If, however, you have an emergency situation please notify me prior to class to see if you can be accommodated that day.

Practice:  Students who are in the Sunshine (age 4) or Sunbeams (age 5-6) or Moonbeams (age 7-8) are expected to practice their music at home 5 times per week with the help of the parent (and since the parent attends each class, he/she understands the work).  Setting aside a definite time each day for practice usually works best.  Your child will easily become discouraged if you are not prepared for the next lesson.

The student manuals for (ages 4-8) are divided into sections for Warm-ups (“W pages”), Homework (“H pages”) for written work/review of new concepts, Keyboard pieces (“K pages”), Songs (“S pages”), Listening (“L pages”) and Ensemble Rhythm (“E pages”). Teacher will give practice suggestions and parents use discretion to ensure “happy practice times”.  Read more in the “MYChild” parent guide that comes with the “registration kit”.

Make up Classes:  If a class is cancelled due to teacher illness or extreme inclement weather, a makeup class will be offered at a time suitable to the majority of parents.  In case of questionable driving conditions due to weather, parents are asked to refer to the “Notice Board” at www.myc.com/teacher/ecouture for cancellations.

Please try to attend all classes, but notify the studio right away if your child must miss a class and then be sure to call or email me to get the homework if your child has missed a class.

Recitals:  We have a recital at the end of the year plus special events throughout, including a “Composition Festival”, “Showcase”, and Royal Conservatory Examinations for the Moonbeams Level 3 Students.   All are Welcome.  :-)

If you have any questions concerning any of the above, please contact me either by phone or email.  Thank you!
