Parental Involvements
Parent(Responsible Guardian) participation is mandatory in all MYC level one courses.
Patronage
Registration is effective when payment is received due to the need to order materials and to reserve specific class time. Please make cheque payable to Cecilia Wong. Tuition is due in a single payment at registration or, for Sunshine/Sunbeams/Moonbeams classes, in the form of 9 post dated cheques for the months of September to May. For special condensed January Start classes, tuition is due in a single payment or in the form of 6 post dated cheques for the month of January to June. To withdraw from lessons, 2 months tuition will be charged since a position cannot be filled in the middle of the year. Please let me know if your child is struggling in some way so we can work together to make sure that music continues to be fun! In the event of a move you can transfer to a new MYC® class.
For private students, payment is due monthly at the beginning (minus the class you know you will miss due to holiday or other plans). Credit applies to the following months should sickness and other unforseeable events occur. We provide guidance on how students practice and stay motivated during missed weeks. This arrangement is more flexible because private lessons are available all year around aside from Teacher's holiday or Pro-D days that usually happens after important examination dates. For RCM, we take advantage of the three options of examination date in a year to suit your child's personal goal and your family's holiday plan. It is your option whether to take Summer break and how long. For students who advice and plan early, we are able to make lesson plan that take the breaks into consideration. Practice plans are distributed to students who will be spending summer overseas as long as you have access to a piano a minimum of 2 days in a week.

Practice Time
Please schedule a minimum of 5 day practices in a week for a suggested duration. Please ensure a rountine is established and maintained right from the beginning to allow your child to experience and enjoy success. 5 days of 15 minute practices is preferred over 2 days of 45 minute practices! Remember the study of music is one of the best ways to develop a happy work habit for your child. We offer practice tips, study tips and tools, incentive programs and scholarships to nuture and motivate learning styles and good habits right from the start.
Piano for practice
We recommend standard upright pianos or touch sensitive keyboards.
Punctuality
In order to respect all parents and students, we start and finish classes on time.
Parking
Please feel free to pull up on or block driveway since your classmates will be leaving at the same time.
Participation and enthusiasm
We encourage you to learn with your child, have fun and participate as much as possible. Enthusiasm and good work habit is contagious. Your are the role model for your little loved one. Thank you for not chatting or bringing siblings to class who may interrupt.
Christmas break is Dec 15 to Jan 6 and Spring break is Mar 15 - 31. Please schedule your holiday plan accordingly. Since regular participation and routine is essential to success, please try your best to not miss a class. Please check your email or arrange to pick up the homework sheet if you have to miss a class. If your teacher is sick and miss a class, it will be postponed to the week following.
Performance
There are a minimum of 2 recitals each year scheduled in early June and December. This is an opportunity for students to perform solo and/or in ensembles on top of music festivals, competitions or talent shows available in the community. It is a non-competitive celebration to showcase a student's accomplishment and milestones made. Our private students have also experienced great motivations and built confidence by participating and winning competitions. For those interested, we will be discussing entries to the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival and Richmond Music Festival held every April and November respectively. For location of the recitals, we usually pick one of the two halls that hosts Richmond Music Festival. Students will then enjoy the priviledge of familiarizing with the same environment.
Progress
To promote success and music appreciation, we will be in touch to discuss the progress of your child's learning. Telephone reference and report cards are available for the purpose of school applications and interviews. |
