Read the Policies

Instruments in the home:

Students in the MYC programs need to have a keyboard or piano in their home for practice times. Students in the Sunrise or Music Pups program do not require an instrument at home.

 Role of the Parent:

It is an MYC policy that a parent/guardian always attend classes with each child aged 9 or younger. This allows the parent to learn the material with the child in class so they can continue the learning process at home in the same manner.

Establishing Good Habits:

Students need to practice a minimum of five days per week. For the younger students this may only refer to coloring a page in their activity book or singing a song that reinforces the musical concept for that week. For the more advanced student this would mean 15-20 minutes of practice at the keyboard each week.

Recitals:

In June of each year there will be a recital where each student will play a solo piano piece. The focus of each recital is to CELEBRATE the child's learning and share their music with others.

Other Children:

Children other than the MYC student will not be allowed into the classroom as the program is designed for a parent and child to have  one on one time together. Other arrangements need to be made for younger children so the parent can concentrate on learning with the student during the class time.

Punctuality:

It is very important to be on time for class, if I am already teaching please try and slip into the class with as little interruptions as possible.

Commitment:

Regular attendance is important for the student to learn all the concepts. Each week the new lessons are built on the previously learned material so it is important to not miss too many classes. In the case of illness please e-mail me and I will try to make sure there is material provided to the parent to cover the class that is missed.

Discontinuing Lessons:

In the rare event that a student withdraws from classes, a two month cancellation fee will apply because the spot cannot be filled until the next year.
