ESTABLISHING GOOD HABITS
It is essential to create a regular practise time 5 days of the week in order to form the "happy habit" needed to succeed in music classes. There will be improvement each week which I reward with praise and stickers. Please ensure that practise time is a positive experience for your child. I try to help in this area by offering practise incentives throughout the year to keep the students motivated and goal oriented.
SUPPLIES
All the necessary supplies for your level are supplied with your registration fee. Please remember to bring all the MYC materials to class each week in the sturdy MYC bag.
MISSED LESSONS
Everyone misses a lesson once in a while due to sickness or other activities, so I email you a copy of the homework sheet for that class to help you keep up with the rest of the class. If you don't have email, you may stop by the studio at your convenience to pick up the sheet. Please make the effort to keep up if you miss a class, and contact me if you have any questions.
HOMEWORK
On the weekly homework sheet there is a section for "homework" which is the "H" section of your book or the "Bright Ideas" theory manual for higher levels. I assign anywhere from 1 to 6 pages of homework per week depending on the level. If you ever need help completing these pages, it is better to contact me during the week instead of waiting for the next class. I welcome your calls and emails.
RECITALS
I usually organize two recitals each year. Recitals are a good motivator for polishing songs and for developing the confidence needed to perform for people you don't know. This is a very valuable skill that builds self-esteem so I hope you will make every effort to participate in these.
