Hi! I'm Carol Meeks, and it is such a blessing to be a teacher of Music for Young Children!
I had the wonderful experience of attending a Paul McCartney concert a few years back. About half-way through his performance he introduced a song with the statement: "This one goes out to my music teacher. Where would I be without music?" I was overjoyed to hear a musician like Sir Paul McCartney recognize the value of music for children, and more specifically honor his childhood music teacher. That is my goal, to instill in children the love of music, where one day they will say with Paul McCartney, "Where would I be without music."
A bit about me...
I graduated from North Park College in Chicago, Illinois, with a degree in Elementary Education. I taught first and second grade before my children were born and have worked with children ever since. I was a Director of Children's ministries where I taught Sunday School Classes, Vacation Bible School, directed children's choirs, wrote and co-directed children's musicals. I taught Music for Young Children for seven years in Carlsbad and am now bringing Music for Young Children to the Temecula-Murrieta Valley area.
Why I love Music for Young Children!
Music for Young Children (MYC) is a wonderful, innovative, comprehensive curriculum that has combined the best of two worlds for me...music and teaching. It makes learning music fun and leads to success through hands on involvement and parent participation. It is a joy to watch the children and even some parents tap into their creative talents and become budding musicians. And yes, I have had some parents who continue on with private lessons right along with their children.
MYC students develop skills and self-discipline to carry them successfully through their lives, not only in music, but also in areas involving:
- Math development
- Critical thinking
- Self-Confidence
It is a sure, strong foundation for future success in the school classroom. It has even been shown that music students score higher on SAT tests.
I believe that music is an essential part of a well rounded life. Music lessons are a gift that lasts a lifetime. I feel fortunate to be able to play a part in opening up the world of music for my MYC students and parents.
